Making a Difference, One Family at a Time

As a mortgage lender, my primary focus is to get people home, and this week that was taken to a whole new level!

It was over a year ago that I got a call from one of my agents, OB Juncal, who told me of a client he had who was looking for a home for their little boy named Izaiah. His family needed my help to finance their new home.

I later found out that Baby Izaiah had been hit by a teen drunk driver back in October 2010 while being wheeled in his little stroller on the sidewalk, by his grandfather, on the way to the park.  Luckily, he survived the accident.  However, he remains paralyzed from the chest down, partially blind, with severe brain damage.

At the same time, it was discovered that the family’s home they had been renting was not equipped for a disabled child.  Also, it was discovered that it had a terrible mold problem so they were forced to move.

All the while, Linda and Charles Van Kessler, founders  of the charity Passion 4 Kids were diligently working to provide this young family and their special needs child a safe environment to come home to once baby Izaiah could be released from the hospital.  Through diligence, perseverance, and an overwhelming response from the community, the family finally got to see their new home on Wednesday of this week.   Let me tell you there wasn’t a dry eye to be found!

This experience showed me that my job isn’t just a transaction.  My job is about touching the hearts and the lives of everyone that comes “across my desk”.  Helping people realize their dreams of homeownership, no matter what that looks like, is my true passion and this experience has helped me realize what that all really means.
